Worry
Nobody can deny that this year hasn’t been a year of worry. Coronavirus has been a global event that has affected the lives of each and every one of us.
It is normal to feel some worry or anxiety at this time, after all, it is a natural reaction to what is going on in the world today.
However, we are taught that worry and anxiety is something that can be treated. In fact, the Quran teaches us that we can also protect ourselves from worry, anxiety and self-doubt. Today’s reminder is to enable us to achieve peace and contentment from the worries of the world.
The imam mentioned ayat 28 from Sura Al-Ra’d which is translated to say:
Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.
Dear brothers, we need to be mindful of this lesson. Allah SWT is telling us that remembering Him is what soothes our hearts. It’s having our mind on the real purpose of this life. It’s having our heart rest through the knowledge that ultimately all power lies with Allah SWT and that our return is to Him.
Conversely, Allah SWT also educates us on those who do not adopt this mindset. The opposite result is illustrated in Sura Taha, ayat 124 which is translated to say:
And whoever turns away from My remembrance – indeed, he will have a depressed life, and We will gather him on the Day of Resurrection blind.”
Dear brothers, we need to understand that regardless of the life that we are presented with, there is a remedy available to us that will keep us assured and free of worry.
Our Prophet SAWS has also taught us about the healthy mindset. We have a hadith which was translated by the imam today. It’s translated to say:
Ibn ‘Abbas (RAA) narrated, ‘One day I was riding behind the Prophet when he said, “O lad, be mindful of Allah and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you shall find Him with you. When you ask (for anything), ask it from Allah, and if you seek help, seek help from Allah.”
And so dear brothers, we conclude this reminder with the following 3 tips to help stay clear of anxiety.
- Keep Allah SWT in your heart through remembrance of Him.
- Perfect your worship and your duas. Dear brothers, be specific in your supplications to Allah SWT. He loves his slave asking of Him and so ask him often, ask Him specifically and ask Him with full expectation that He will listen to your dua.
- Remind yourself of the short nature of this life. Ultimately we are all going to return to Allah SWT and insh’Allah we will all be granted the highest station in Jannat.
Dear brothers, this life is nothing but a test. However, let us not lose sight of the fact that peace and contentment lies with the remembrance of the true purpose of this life and the worship of Allah SWT.
