{"id":2577,"date":"2020-09-04T08:16:44","date_gmt":"2020-09-04T07:16:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.salahadeenmosque.org.uk\/?p=2577"},"modified":"2020-09-04T08:16:44","modified_gmt":"2020-09-04T07:16:44","slug":"modesty-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salahadeenmosque.org.uk\/index.php\/2020\/09\/04\/modesty-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Modesty"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Modesty and shyness play a special part between the affairs\nof the Creator and the created.&nbsp; All prophets and Messengers encouraged\nmodesty, as the Prophet, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery religion has its distinct\ncharacteristic, and the distinct characteristic of Islam is modesty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Modesty as a sense of shame or shyness in human beings is a\nshrinking of the soul from foul conduct, a quality that prevents one from\nbehaving badly towards others or encouraging others to behave badly towards\nyou.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Islamic ethics considers modesty as more than just a\nquestion of how a person dresses, and more than just modesty in front of\npeople; rather it is reflected in a Muslim\u2019s speech, dress, and conduct, both\nin public when in regards to people, and in private in regards to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Prophet SAWS has attributed modesty to faith itself.\nThis is explained in the following hadith which is translated to say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Prophet (\ufdfa) said, &#8220;Iman\nhas over seventy branches &#8211; or over sixty branches &#8211; the uppermost of which is\nthe declaration: &#8216;None has the right to be worshipped but Allah&#8217;; and the least\nof which is the removal of harmful object from the road, and modesty is a\nbranch of Iman.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A strong person who believes feels shy in front of God and\nHis creation, since God knows and sees everything.&nbsp; He feels shy to\ndisobey his Lord and feels shame if he sins or acts inappropriately, whether in\nprivate or public.&nbsp; This type of modesty is acquired and is directly\nrelated to one\u2019s faith, where one\u2019s awareness of God increases one\u2019s \u201cshyness\u201d\nin front of Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The imam referenced the following hadith which is translated\nto say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Prophet (\ufdfa) said, &#8216;One of the\nsayings of the early Prophets which the people have got is: If you don&#8217;t feel\nashamed (from Haya&#8217;: pious shyness from committing religeous indiscretions) do\nwhatever you like.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And so, the way to develop modesty is to think about whether\nyou would do the deed they are contemplating in front of their parents. &nbsp;A\nperson with a shred of shame in their heart will not commit any lewd act in\nfront of their parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So the question then ought to be: Is Allah SWT not much\nworthier that such acts not be done in His sight?
