Today\u2019s topic is on 10th of Ashura and the month of Muharram<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My dear brothers, we are now in the first month of the\nIslamic calendar, this being the month of Muharram. This is regarded as one of\nthe sacred months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The imam referenced the 36th<\/sup> ayat of Sura\nAt-tawbah in reference to this. It\u2019s translated to say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Indeed, the number of months with\nAllah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He\ncreated the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the\ncorrect religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them. And fight against the\ndisbelievers collectively as they fight against you collectively. And know that\nAllah is with the righteous [who fear Him].<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our Prophet SAWS testifies to this month in the following\nhadith:<\/p>\n\n\n\n The best of fasting after\nRamadhan is fasting during Allah\u2019s month of Muharram<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dear brothers, this hadith illustrates to us the\nsignificance of the month and the weight that needs to be placed on it. For the\nProphet SAWS to tell us that it is Allah\u2019s month should indicate to us the\npotential we have here to please our Lord in this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Also dear brothers, we have in this month we day of Ashura.\nThis is the 10th day of the month and it is tomorrow this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Firstly, the story of this day is explained in the following\nHadith:<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Prophet SAWS came to Medina\nand observed that the Jews were fasting on the day of Ashura. Upon enquiring he\nwas told that \u201cThis is a righteous day, it is the day when Allah saved the\nChildren of Israel from their enemies, so Musa fasted on this day.\u201d Our beloved\nProphet SAWS responded by saying \u201cWe have more right to Musa than you\u201d. And so\nhe fasted on that day and commanded the Muslims to do likewise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dear brothers, when we reflect on the mercy shown by Allah\nSWT to Musa and his followers, we can see why this day is a day that was\nrevered by our Prophet SAWS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If that isn\u2019t a reason enough to fast, the imam mentioned a\nhadith in which the reward for fasting on the day of Ashura is relayed. The\nProphet SAWS is translated to say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cFasting the day of \u2018Ashura\u2019, I\nhope, will expiate for the sins of the previous year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Therefore, what is a day to fast dear brothers?
